Calcined Dolomite

High-temperature decomposed calcium magnesium oxide (\(CaO \cdot MgO\)), commonly known as doloma or roasted dolomite, supplied for steelmaking, refractory bricks, and metallurgical fluxes.

Available Forms in this Mineral:

Product Overview

Calcined dolomite is produced by thermal calcination of natural dolomite in industrial kilns, driving off carbon dioxide (\(CO_2\)) to yield a reactive compound of calcium oxide and magnesium oxide (\(CaO \cdot MgO\)).

In primary steelmaking (BOF and EAF), it is charged directly into the slag. The presence of \(MgO\) saturates the molten slag, minimizing the chemical erosion of magnesite and dolomite refractory linings in furnace walls and ladles.

Typical Industrial Applications

  • Steelmaking (EAF & BOF): Slag conditioning agent to saturate furnace slag with MgO and extend refractory lining campaigns.
  • Refractory Brick Production: Raw component in manufacturing fired and resin-bonded doloma and magnesia-doloma refractories.
  • Effluent & Acid Neutralization: Neutralizing acidic industrial effluents with high acid-binding capacity.
  • Non-Ferrous Metallurgy: Fluxing additions in copper, lead, and zinc smelting furnaces.

Moisture Protection & Logistics

Due to the reactive nature of unslaked calcium and magnesium oxides, material is bagged in heavy-duty HDPE sacks with polyethylene liners or sealed big bags to prevent atmospheric hydration. Dispatches are coordinated via covered trucks from Pindwara, Rajasthan.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between raw dolomite and calcined dolomite? expand_more
Raw dolomite is the natural carbonate mineral (CaCO3.MgCO3). Calcined dolomite has undergone thermal processing above 900°C to remove CO2, converting it into active oxides (CaO.MgO).
How should calcined dolomite be stored? expand_more
It must be stored in a dry, covered warehouse on raised pallets to avoid ground moisture and humidity absorption, which can cause slaking and loss of active reactivity.
What lump sizes are available for furnace charging? expand_more
Standard furnace charge sizes are 10–50 mm or 20–60 mm lumps. Fine powder fractions are also supplied for refractory compounding.
How can we request price quotes and analysis sheets? expand_more
